One of NJ's 12 Most Wanted Arrested in Florida

Fort Lauderdale, F.L.- One of New Jersey's 12 Most Wanted Fugitives is now in custody after a cooperative effort between the New Jersey State Police and the Fort Lauderdale Police Department. The arrest took place on Friday June, 8th in Broward County, Florida.

Detectives from the Fort Lauderdale Police Department's Fugitive Unit and Career Criminals Unit arrested Robert Marone 69, of Ft. Lauderdale F.L. less than one hour after receiving his possible location from the NJSP's Fugitive Unit. A concerned citizen called the NJSP on the Fugitive Tipline (800-437-7839) after learning that Marone had been using an alias for more than 15 years. Before calling the NJSP, this individual researched Marone on the internet and viewed photos of him on the NJSP's 12 Most Wanted website.

Marone was located and arrested by the Fort Lauderdale detectives without incident at approximately 2:30 p.m. After being processed, he was lodged in the Broward County Jail and is currently awaiting extradition back to New Jersey.

"The cooperative effort leading to the apprehension of Robert Marone is a excellent example of how well law enforcement can work together to accomplish a common goal," said Colonel Rick Fuentes, Superintendent of the New Jersey State Police. "We are grateful for the fast actions of the Fort Lauderdale Police Department in assisting us to close the cell doors on this two-decades-old fugitive case."

Robert Marone was placed on the New Jersey's 12 Most Wanted list in 1995. In 1992 he was charged with the Aggravated Sexual Assault of a child in Ocean County N.J. He is also wanted by the New Jersey Parole Board for violation of parole, stemming from a 1971 murder conviction.
