Shamong Twp., N.J. - The New Jersey State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle crash involving a stolen vehicle that occurred in Shamong Twp., Burlington County.
On Monday, December 18 at approximately 12:00 p.m., Troopers were dispatched to the Pic-a-Lilli Inn on Route 206 in Shamong for the report of a stolen vehicle. The vehicle was described as a 1999 green GMC Yukon.
As Troopers traveled southbound on Route 206 responding to the scene, they observed the stolen Yukon traveling northbound on Route 206. The responding troopers turned around in an attempt to stop the vehicle. As the Troopers began traveling northbound on Route 206, they observed the Yukon driving erratically at a high rate of speed. Troopers followed the vehicle for a short distance before the driver lost control of the SUV and ran off the side of the road. The vehicle then struck a utility pole and became engulfed in flames. The three occupants of the Yukon were pronounced dead at the scene. Identification of the victims is still pending.
The circumstances surrounding the stolen vehicle as well as the crash remain under investigation.
