State Police Seeks Public’s Assistance Identifying Man Seriously Injured in Crash

Folsom Boro, N.J. - The New Jersey State Police is seeking the public’s assistance with identifying a man who was seriously injured when he was struck by a car on U.S. Highway 322 in Folsom Borough, Atlantic County.

Based on the preliminary investigation, on Friday, June 9, at 9:36 p.m., the victim was walking in the right lane on the eastbound side of the highway at milepost 37.1 when he was struck by a Dodge Magnum, which was traveling east on the roadway.  The victim was flown to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center where he remains in critical condition and unable to communicate.  The driver of the Dodge did not report any injuries, and no charges have been issued at this time.

Based on a document discovered on the victim, detectives believe that the man may be Edwin Ortiz, 56, of Atlantic City, N.J.  The address listed on the document is 1333 Atlantic Avenue, Atlantic City, which is the Department of Family and Community Development. He is described as a Hispanic man, approximately 5’6”, small build, between 50 to 60 years old, full beard (salt and pepper), with tattoo letters on his left knuckles that read “Edwin,” and a distinctive tattoo on his left bicep.

Anyone who can assist with positively identifying the victim is asked to contact Trooper Steven M. Beck, Jr., of Buena Vista Station, at (609) 561-7267.  Anonymous tips are welcome.  The crash remains under investigation, and there is no additional information available.
