State Troopers to Set Up Sobriety Checkpoint on Garden State Parkway

West Trenton, N.J. - On the evening of Saturday, July 18, 2015, the New Jersey State Police will conduct a DWI sobriety checkpoint on the northbound side of the Garden State Parkway in Holmdel Township, Monmouth County, near the PNC Arts Center. Motorists can expect some delays while this safety initiative is being conducted.

In 2014, 79 crashes involving alcohol occurred on the Garden State Parkway in the Holmdel Station area, and three of nine fatal accidents in the same area involved alcohol. Between 2012 and 2014, more than 1,000 alcohol related arrests were made in and around the concert venue.

"Enhanced DWI enforcement on the Garden State Parkway will serve as a deterrent to people who may be inclined to take the wheel after having too much to drink," said Lt. Colonel Patrick Callahan, Deputy Superintendent. "We are confident that taking impaired drivers off the road will reduce the overall number of crashes in the area."

Troopers will be looking for signs of impairment due to alcohol or drugs. If you plan on drinking, do not drive and make sure to always have a designated driver.
