About the Office of Forensic Sciences

The Office of Forensic Sciences is part of the New Jersey State Police Investigation Branch. The crime laboratories within the Office of Forensic Sciences achieved accreditation from The American Society of Crime Laboratory Directors-Lab Accreditation Board (ASCLD-LAB) in October of 2003. ASCLD-LAB is a professional organization of crime laboratory directors dedicated to achieving “Excellence through Leadership in Forensic Science Management” by committing to the adherence of these principles: accuracy and quality, standards and ethics, communications and education, leadership and vision, development and technology. Accreditation is granted for a 5-year period provided that a laboratory continues to meet the standards and adheres to a quality assurance program that includes proficiency testing, continuing education, training and other programs. The quality assurance program established by the Office of Forensic Sciences ensures that the citizens of the State of New Jersey are provided timely forensic services of irrefutable quality.
